Jatropha Seed Oils

EDS will produce high quality Jatropha Seed oils that are ideal as a basis for biodiesel.  Oil produced from the Jatropha seeds are refinable using conventional biodiesel technologies and existing facilities.  The Jatropha oil EDS will be producing can be used to make high quality fuels meeting all applicable ASTM standards.

Seedcake By-product

The seedcake left over from the seed pressing has proven effective as a commercial organic fertilizer. This will be sold to agricultural groups in the region as fertilizer. The seedcake will also be used by EDS as fertilizer on its own crops which will further reduce our cultivation costs.

Co Crops

Jatropha lends itself to intercropping. Intercropping is when two or more crops are grown simultaneously in the same field. The shade provided by the jatropha plants can be exploited by shade-loving herbal plants; vegetables such as red and green peppers, tomatoes, etc. No specific intolerance between jatropha and other crops has been detected. Other plants known to grow successfully alongside jatropha include upland rice (rice grown in conditions without surface water), peanut, mungbean, cowpea, sweet potato, tania or yautia (macal in Mexico). During the second year, other taller crops can also be included.
